4th Infantry Division

4th Infantry Division

Formed in 1917 and nicknamed the 'Ivy' division (a play on the Roman numeral IV), the 4th Infantry Division was among the first U.S. units ashore at Utah Beach on D-Day in 1944. It served in Vietnam and conducted the 2003 operation in Iraq that captured Saddam Hussein. Based at Fort Carson, Colorado, it is a subordinate division of III Armored Corps and fields armor, Stryker, and aviation units.
