It serves as the field intelligence-gathering element supporting the Joint Special Operations Command, providing human and signals intelligence ahead of and during special-operations missions. Headquartered at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, it has operated under a rotating series of cover names and is sometimes called 'the Activity.'
