1st Cavalry Division

Established in 1921 and nicknamed the 'First Team,' the 1st Cavalry Division traces its origins to horse cavalry before converting to other roles over the decades. It fought as infantry in the Pacific in World War II, pioneered airmobile helicopter operations in Vietnam, and has since served as an armored division in the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Based at Fort Cavazos, Texas, it is one of the most decorated divisions in the Army and a subordinate unit of III Armored Corps.
