SEAL Team EIGHTEEN was established on August 1, 2008, alongside SEAL Team 17 when the Naval Special Warfare Operational Support Group was redesignated as Naval Special Warfare Group 11. It is based at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Virginia, and is one of only two reserve SEAL teams. Its reserve SEALs and support personnel deploy in support of active-duty Naval Special Warfare commands worldwide.
