SEAL Team SEVENTEEN was established on August 1, 2008, when the Naval Special Warfare Operational Support Group was redesignated as Naval Special Warfare Group 11 and its support teams became reserve SEAL Teams 17 and 18. It is based at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, California, and is one of only two reserve SEAL teams. Its mission is to organize, train, and deploy reserve SEAL platoons and combat-support personnel in support of active-duty commands.
