Coast Guard Maritime Security Response Team

U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Security Response Team (MSRT-East)

The Maritime Security Response Team grew out of post-9/11 maritime security efforts, beginning as Security Response Team One in 2004 and formally established as the MSRT in 2006 at Chesapeake, Virginia. It is the Coast Guard's advanced interdiction force, trained for counterterrorism, opposed boardings, and response to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive threats. A second unit, MSRT-West, was later stood up, and the original team is now designated MSRT-East within the Coast Guard's Deployable Specialized Forces.
